A visual manifestation of music through movement and emotion… a soul's migration connecting the past with the present. Nerine Avital is a second-generation dancer, specializing in both the tribal and nightclub styles of American Fusion Bellydance. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Nerine Avital grew up immersed in the dance community watching dancers like: Suzanna DelVecchio, Ne-Kajira Jannan, Yasmin, Karija Dossett, Nabeela el Shalimar, Laurel Victoria Gray, Zaphara, Tahia Alibeck, Mish Mish, and Dehlila. Nerine began performing with the Amaal Middle Eastern Dance Ensemble and Theater in the 1970's when she was five years old, debuting at George Mosley's annual Fantasia Festival in Seattle. Throughout the years, she has trained in American bellydance, various folkloric styles, and traditional folkdances including Turkish, Macedonian, Greek, and Balkan. The Amaal Dance Ensemble performed at numerous local festivals and presented bi-annual stage shows of traditional and interpretive dances including themed-shows such as Goddess depictions from around the world and following the travels of Alexander the Great via regional dances and myths. Nerine continued performing with the troupe until 1994 as a soloist and group dancer. Later, Nerine would go on to teach and host several Hafla's in Spokane, WA. These events were an expression of her philosophy of tolerance and inclusion, the value of community, and the importance of a comprehensive educational background. An exciting, exceptional artist, Nerine has recently relocated to the New England area, performing at various dance events and offering classes and private training. Her joy and respect for the Art is evident to all who watch her perform. Known for her creation of unusual, beautifully executed movements and her exacting interpretation of the music expressed in her original choreographies, Nerine is truly a dancer's dancer. |
